The plot follows an intellectually gifted 7-year-old who becomes the subject of a custody battle between her uncle and Mary Adler
Featured Character
Mary was born to mathematician Diane Adler. After her mother's death, she has been raised by her uncle Frank. Mary has never gone to real school and has been homeschooled until she turned seven and attends the Howard School. Since a visit from her grandmother Evelyn, there have been issues about what school she should go to and where to live. When she was given up for adoption, Frank realized that he made a mistake. She was then enrolled in the Oaks School for the Gifted.
